When I was a twenty-something year old personal trainer in NYC, I was asked to sub for a Postnatal personal training class. I quickly realized that the group of moms I was teaching had little to no postpartum resources or support. Over a decade ago, I dove into learning as much as I could about supporting the pre/postnatal client. Within the Personal Training and Pilates scope, I learned how to address diastasis, pelvic floor issues, and all other physical changes that happen during pregnancy, birth and after birth.
In 2019 I had my baby. What I learned when I had my son was that not much had changed regarding receiving support in over a decade. There were still very little resources and in addition to that I noticed (and fell for) the dangerous toxic timelines that society projects onto postpartum people. I was not patient with my healing, I was not kind to my body, I expected to reach pre-determined timelines by a pre-determined time (example: gain the weight in 9-months, lose it in 9-months) and because of this I physically, mentally, and emotionally suffered.
No amount of studying about diastasis and the pelvic floor prepared me for the full-spectrum of support I actually needed as a new mother. It is my mission to re-define what it means to heal postpartum. It is important that this redefinition slowly (or maybe rapidly!) becomes the new social norm.
I teach customized-for-you Postnatal Pilates and Postnatal Recovery sessions, both group and one-on-one, online and in-person in NYC and Woodstock, NY.
